DREAM THEATER con il loro decimo album in studio: "Black Clouds & Silver Linings".
Prodotto dagli stessi Mike Portnoy e John Petrucci, che compone anche la maggior parte dei testi della band – è l'evidente manifestazione dell'abilità musicale della band, dei testi vivi e delle composizioni ambiziose e composte da molti livelli diversi che hanno da sempre caratterizzato i DREAM THEATER, portandoli ad essere conosciuti come una delle band più creative di sempre.
In "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" ci sono un paio di brani brevi, “A Rite of Passage” e “Wither”, e quattro più lunghi che incarnano il talento della band nella scrittura di brani epici, molto lunghi, e composti da molte parti diverse. Questi brani - “A Nightmare to Remember”, “The Shattered Fortress”, “The Best of Times” e la traccia di chiusura (di quasi 20 minuti) “The Count of Tuscany” - mostrano la complessità compositiva, l'abilità strumentale, e l'immediatezza emotiva che ha reso famoso il quintetto in tutto il mondo ma anche una produzione spaziosa, cristallina, che enfatizza le nuances sonore della band e gli arrangiamenti.
